The Essentialist

The Essentialist

Some collections are built around variety. This one is built around precision.

The Essentialist is two wines from producers who have nothing in common except a refusal to compromise. A Loire red from a grower who treats Cabernet Franc the way Burgundy treats Pinot: as the only thing worth doing properly in a place that happens to be very good at it. A Rhône sparkling that has no interest in competing with Champagne because it is not trying to be Champagne. It is trying to be exactly what it is, which turns out to be more interesting.

The name is not a marketing position. It is a description. These are winemakers who have removed everything that is not essential and found that what remains is enough.

If you have been looking for wines that do not need explaining, these are a reasonable place to start.
